“Plans often change in unexpected ways. Just when I thought I’d continue my PhD journey at UCL after completing my masters, I was introduced to a fascinating project at the University of Antwerp, titled “TAP: Tapping the Audio Description Process.” To my delight, I emerged as the top candidate among 80 applicants to secure this fully-funded opportunity. Building on my master’s dissertation, which explored whether gaze data from eye-tracking systems could serve as a visual guide for professional audio describers, this project will contrast AD writing (translating images into words) with AD translation (translating AD into another language) using tools like keylogging, eye tracking, and think-aloud protocols. I’m excited to work with three renowned supervisors: Professors Anna Jankowska, Iris Schrijver, and Nina Reviers, and begin a new chapter in Belgium. |
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without CUHK Translation. To my lecturers and professors, thank you for your guidance. Special thanks to Professor James St. André for introducing me to translation research and Professor Li Long for invaluable advice on my undergraduate thesis. I’m also deeply grateful to Dr. Ye Jia Michelle and Professor Wei Ling-chia Sophie, whose care helped me through my toughest times. To my CUHK friends, thank you for your unwavering support. Growing with you has been a privilege, both intellectually and personally. Looking back, every challenge I faced during my undergraduate years shaped me. They’ve made me resilient and ready for the challenges ahead." |
