Scholar from CUHK(SZ) joins workshop on AI in Teaching Translation and Interpreting organised by the Department of Translation, CUHK, to explore translation and interpreting education in the tech-driven age |
On 24 May, 2025, the Department of Translation, CUHK brought together scholars from CUHK(SZ) and other leading universities for a workshop on AI in Teaching Translation and Interpreting, exploring how emerging technology is shaping the field. |
Professor Chang Liwen from CUHK(SZ), as an invited speaker, discussed curriculum reform and innovative teaching initiatives at CUHK(SZ) driven by advancements in technology. |
During the lecture session, Professor Chang highlighted a teaching initiative centered on “mock conferences.” This project not only helps students master translation techniques but also aims to cultivate interpersonal communication skills and intercultural awareness. Participants in the project came from various courses, including Mock Conference, Computer-Assisted Translation and Post-Editing, and Translation Project and Management. The students worked collaboratively, taking on roles such as event planning, poster design, and providing interpreting services to deliver a series of public lectures. Some of these talks incorporated themes related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, enabling students to explore diverse sociocultural issues and reflect on the value and responsibility of humanity in a technology-driven world. In the workshop session, Professor Chang also demonstrated an automated online learning platform designed to support independent interpreting practice. |
Professor Chen Tze-wei of the National Taiwan Normal University, and professors Wayne Wen-chun Liang and Daphne Qi-rong Chang of Soochow University also shared their insights on innovative approaches for training translators and interpreters with GenAI. |
