2023-24 MA Graduation Reflection
When I arrived at the Department of Translation last August, I was filled with anticipation. Today, after attending the graduation ceremony, I feel a deep sense of nostalgia. Although it was only a short year, I have gained tremendous benefits from the various courses offered by the Translation Department: workshops on Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation unveiled the mysteries of translation, allowing me to acquire theoretical knowledge and useful techniques through practical translation exercises. Legal translation and business translation took me to two completely new fields, making me realize that translation is actually a “miscellaneous science” that requires extensive knowledge and the ability to draw connections. The bilingual editing course made me contemplate whether translators can assume roles other than editing in the era of machine translation’s prevalence.

“Graduation” is not just about delivering a graduation speech on stage. It also includes completing the last presentation, attending the final class, and taking the last exam. In fact, our entire lives are a continuous series of graduations, but what awaits us are new encounters.

In reality, this is what all of us want to express: the mountains are high and the waters are vast, but we shall never forget the experiences we’ve had. We will forge ahead towards the future, overcoming obstacles with determination.
