The Court of Appeal Visit
The Court of Appeal guided visit for students of the Department of Translation was held on March 5. Nearly 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students attended. Students were introduced to the history and development of the HK court system as well as the history of the historic CFA building. Students were excited that they got to visit the underground exhibit area showing the original layout of the building and also models highlighting the details of symbolic figures signifying justice and mercy on the pediment and dome of the building. They were also exhilarated by being able to visit the Library exclusively for use by judges and lawyers (which was formerly prisoners’ cells) and had the chance to walk the Bridge of Sigh by which the convicted prisoners were led out of the courtroom for their condemned fate of prosecution. They had the chance to see the courtrooms and the exhibition hall where the mace of the Chief Justice, the ceremonial gowns and hairpieces of judges as well as the Judicial Oath are displayed. All the students found the guided visit both interesting and educational.
