On-site CI practice at CUHK Art Museum
Two interpreting classes of the Department of Translation had the opportunity to put into practice their consecutive interpreting (CI) skills at the Art Museum of CUHK earlier this month. Undergraduates from an advanced CI course as well as MA students of a specialized CI course were able to test their interpreting skills in-situ at an exhibition featuring the collections of the Art Museum. Students took turns interpreting explanations by the docents on the exhibits for a client (who pretended to be monolingual and had to depend on the interpretation). Students found the simulated in-situ CI practice an engaging and practical learning activity which enhanced acquisition of vital CI skills.
