2023-24 MA graduate Qiu Junxiong
As the most historic translation department in Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has produced many renowned scholars. During my time at CUHK, I participated in numerous campus activities and lectures, understood the mission of CUHK: ‘combine tradition and modernity, blend China and the West’, and I believe this is also the goal that all translation major students want to achieve.

CUHK Translation Department embraces artificial intelligence, offers many related courses, welcomes students to try new technologies, and still treasures the basics of translation, allowing students to constantly think about the relationship between translation practice and technological progress, and to show the value of translators as independent thinking individuals in the process of applying and surpassing new technologies.

Translation emphasises both theory and practice. The teachers of the CUHK Translation Department all have solid theoretical foundations, rich practical experience and industry backgrounds. The lessons they teach are not just academic theories, but practical skills that have been tested in their translation works. Although I have published several translation works and seemingly set foot on the path of translation, I still feel that I have benefited a lot from my study here. The future path of my translation career will undoubtedly become clearer with the guidance of many excellent teachers.

I remember the day when I entered CUHK, coinciding with its 60th anniversary, and I was fortunate to be part of its history.
