Our undergraduate Ray CHAN Hoi Ming will step on a new journey of English teacher
Hi all, I’m Ray! CUHK Translation to me is more than just Google Translate or grammar courses. It is a global bridge between cultures; it is a melting pot that allows an exchange of ideas about lexical approaches; it stimulates creativity through languages. |
I’ve immensely benefited from the practical translation courses which expose me to a wide variety of contexts and allow me to practice using authentic English. Special thanks to my FYP instructor, Dr. Constance Wang, who has been nothing but tender, benevolent and patient when guiding me through the project. Were it not for her dedication, hard work and rich lexical resources, I couldn’t possibly have finished it all by myself. I genuinely think that I’ve exhausted all my luck to have her as my mentor :) |
During my undergraduate studies, I have been working as a part-time English tutor at different secondary schools for HKDSE English enhancement programmes. To tackle students’ use of Chinglish, I apply the knowledge and language skills I’ve acquired from the translation courses by addressing the differences between English and Chinese. Taught to alter their mindset towards English, students feel more confident in using more natural and idiomatic expressions in lieu of stiff and awkward stock phrases. |
Immense thanks to Ms. Alicia Chan @miss_aliciachan, my mentor, my muse, my inspiration and my idol. |
In September, I’ll embark on my education journey and commence work as a full-time English Language teacher at a local secondary school. Join the CUHK Translation family and unleash your language potential!! |
